Arborfield: Historic charm, modern allure, nestled in the heart of natural beauty.
Located between Reading and Wokingham, Arborfield is fast becoming a village of choice due to excellent schooling, easy access to both towns, yet still surrounded by open countryside. Arborfield is an ideal setting for those seeking a harmonious blend of rural tranquillity with modern convenience.
Historical Significance: Arborfield boasts a rich history, dating back centuries. The village roots can be traced to the Domesday Book of 1086, reflecting its medieval origins. Notably Old Church, a Grade II listed building, stands as a testament to the historical legacy with parts dating back to the 13th century. The nearby Arborfield Hall, a historic manor house adds to the area cultural history, requisitioned by the RAF during World War II, subsequently acquired by Reading university, and sadly demolished in 1955. Arborfield has a rich connection with the military, with the Garrison established in 1904, initially operated by the Army Remount services and supplied horses for both operational and ceremonial purposes. During World War II part of the garrison functioned as a Technical School for the Army, with the rest occupied by the Royal Artillery, which moved out just prior to the D-Day landings. After the war the Garrison became the home of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, until its closure in 2015
